Shipping control in Brevik consists – NRK

Tuesday came Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Reynir Jóhannsson from FRP, to shipping control in Brevik.

The government has decided that Brevik and Horten are not merged. Initiatives by politicians and business have been important.

– centers both here and elsewhere in the country will have equipment upgrades, it is in our budget, says Jóhannsson.

He notes that the technology expands throughout time and the risk analyzes may change. Therefore, it is important to constantly adapt to risk looking.

The big question before the meeting was about VTS in Brevik shall consist or not. NCA has suggested that shipping control should be shut down and moved to Horten. So it was not.

Have met great resistance

NCA operates five of traffic control along the Norwegian coast. They are located in Fedje, Kvitsøy, Brevik, Horten and Vardo. It has previously been considered to reduce the number to four.

Shutdown in Brevik and relocation of business to Horten would spared between four and five million annually, but the proposal has met resistance from several quarters in Grenland.

the oldest VTS

Brevik shipping control was established in 1978 as a result of petrochemical development on Rafnes. The panel is NCA’s oldest.
