New technologies to prevent oil pollution – NRK

– It’s fun to present a technology we have been working to achieve for many years, says Torgeir Straand.

He is general manager of the company Telemark Technologies, as is behind the new technology.

The principle, as you can see in the video at the top of the case, is to add a cotton-like fabric over areas where petroleum, diesel and water have interfered. The cotton-like substance will then attract the waste products of oil and diesel, and left with clean water.

Straand says technology is scalable and can be used on several different situations.

– For example, a car accident, where it is feared leakage of drinking water, or by major oil disasters at sea, such as Full City incident.

He also believes that the new invention may be applicable internationally.

– Several places in the world are struggling partly with contaminated groundwater. We hope to be able to help do something, quit Straand.

The technology will be presented to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien September.
