After 38 years of service, half in the lead and the last eight as chief executive, announced Paul Otellini (62) last fall that he will resign from all offices and positions in Intel in May 2013.

He would normally have led chip giant to age 65, the official retirement age in the business, so the decision came as a surprise.

Otellinis successors have been appointed. There are two pieces. Although he held the position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and president, but these positions are now divided between two people.

Brian Krzanich (52) becomes the new CEO. It is no surprise, but follows a long tradition of Intel internal reprint. Krzanich (pronounced “ker-san-itsj”) has 31 years of experience with a wide variety of management positions within the company, most recently as deputy commander (chief operating officer) during Otellini.

Promotion is also given to Renee James (48) who becomes president. She also has extensive experience with their 25 year career in Intel. James comes from the position as head of software and services.

She has been mentioned as a candidate for senior management, but the position is now that is shared between her and Krzanich.

dual problems are discussed in advance such cooperation, regardless of the outcome of the Board’s decision as to who should succeed Otellini, reports the New York Times.

– She was a very suitable candidate. Our vision of a mobile, connected computing environment was so similar, we saw how we could conduct joint development faster, says Krzanich the newspaper.

transition comes at a critical point in the company’s 45 year history. After filling much of the world’s servers and PCs with processors in many decades, Intel has struggled to come up with competitive products tailored to mobile devices.

This is precisely the strategy around the much-needed investment in energy-efficient , power-efficient chips for smartphones and tablets that are their presumed first and most important task.

This is obviously not in a vacuum, when Intel’s fourth gjenerasjons Core processors, known as Haswell, scheduled to be launched in the current quarter .

share price of the company rose half a percent during the Thursday, so line of succession has not been negatively received.

two new senior executives will take up their new positions on 16 May in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting. It is stated that Paul Otellini during a period shall function in an advisory position.
