FRP For coding curriculum in elementary school – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): This weekend was National Board of FRP gathered for its first meeting after the election – partly to discuss the poor result in this autumn’s municipal elections and the handling of asylum flow to Norway.

A unanimous congress adopted, however, also another, somewhat unexpected Resolution: The desire to introduce coding – that computer programming – that curriculum in elementary school.

Unanimously adopted

It was FPU that came with the proposal, which was unanimously adopted by the Progress Party’s National Executive Committee.

– The fact that FRP as regjeringssparti go on to pursue this, it means that this is something our people in Parliament have to work with, and they have to lift it up to the Minister in the Cabinet, says FPU-chairman Atle Simonsen.

Already Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H) opened a pilot project with coding as electives for twenty Norwegian secondary schools. Therefore do not think Simonsen there will be no problem to get with the Conservatives on the team. FPU-chairman believes that it is important to start to learn the coding already in elementary school. Then elective subject in middle school to supplement the children have already learned, says Simonsen.

In mathematics?

– When an increasing number of jobs are being replaced by software and robotics will be a big difference between a generation that can use technology and a generation who can develop technology. What makes me optimistic is that there are players who have expertise in this, and who are willing to spend time and effort to get it, and to provide teachers with the necessary expertise, says Simonsen.

He envisions that coding can be a learning objective in such mathematics.

Jubler over the proposal

Encoding is already introduced in the curriculum of primary schools in England. Finland is also in the process of introducing it.

Founder Simen Sommerfeldt movement Leather Kidsa Coding (LKK) rejoice over the new FRP policy.

– FPU has grasped that the world just becomes more and more digital and that it is a challenge that school as it is now does not give children the chance to become creators. I hope it’s something FRP receives a majority for, and I should like to see what party that does not support them, he said.
