Six specialists began using pioneering technology to save fire damaged … – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): We often hear stories of homeless, injured or sick animals are cared for and receive help from volunteers.

Care and love can sometimes be medicine itself, but sometimes it must be more comprehensive treatment to .

pioneering technology

A group of veterinarians and other professionals in Brazil, using groundbreaking 3D technology helped a number of wounded animals to replace broken or lost limbs.

the team, known as the Animal Avengers and is based in Sao Paulo, comprised of four veterinarians, an oral surgeon and a 3D designer.

the group was primarily formed for their common interest and love scientific and animals.

Custom dentures mutilated animals can save lives and d e realized that they could make an extraordinary work using pioneering technology.

The world’s first

turtle Freddy was the first turtle in the world to receive new shell using 3D technology and was the first to receive the help of veterinarians.

Freddy got shell destroyed and was near death when she was seriously injured in a forest fire in 2015.

the situation was very critical when she was found. Freddy was severely injured and had been without food for 45 days, according to a press release from the news agency Noticias GC.

process of constructing a new skin started to take around 40 photos of the turtle at all angles before they were compared with images of a healthy turtle.

3D printing

the images were used to create a 3D model of the turtle. Four different plastic pieces were then constructed by means of a 3D printer. The pieces were added together into a shell, almost like a puzzle.

3D printing builds layered up model or prototype through a rapid process. It is added to one layer of new material in liquid or powder form and store this in the desired contour. Different materials can be used, but plastic is most commonly used.

Each of the four shell parts must have taken over fifty hours to produce, which was much more than expected, according to the Huffington Post.

After the shell was finished, there was only one thing that remained. The shell was white, which is not so particularly good for a turtle. Brazilian artist Yuri Caldera painted in colors that were fit camouflage for Freddy.

Before it was painted used group time to find a type of paint that would not be detrimental to Freddys health.

According to 9News has Freddy really well today and has achieved great progress after she was near death a year ago.

Helping animals voluntarily

animal Avengers have besides Freddy helped a number of other animals, including several birds. In July 2015 they ensured that a toucan got a 3D prosthesis after upper beak had been destroyed in an accident. They also developed and produced the world’s first 3D metal beak to bird Gigi, a bird of the species macaw, parrot belonging to the family.

The group volunteer and spend money from their own pockets for their projects.
