Technology and sustainable solutions – Intrafish.no

For a long time we have discussed the “sustainable solutions”. The term has many definitions. In this context, we think along three dimensions: biological, social and economic sustainability. Biological sustainability refers to the conservation of biological diversity; Social sustainability means that people need a social structure, a place to live, a job to go to; and economic sustainability we mean that people must have a good privately published, today and far into the future.

A number of conditions must be thus in place. Within many disciplines, such as social sciences, life sciences, professional subjects m. Fl. we have spent less time on the important role that technology plays to develop sustainable solutions.

In our time community engagement for universities, as we see it, to take part in a sustainable value creation.

With the added value we think here not only of the economic definition. The sector’s contribution to value creation is teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge and not least new solutions that can be used in the public and private sectors. We must show that what we produce is an important contribution to sustainable solutions both from a biological, social and economic perspective. Technology integrated both in the research, development and teaching will provide valuable contribution to a sustainable value creation. To integrate technology requires innovative thinking combined with clear and targeted strategies for the sector.

The previous government had encouraged all institutions in the higher education sector to prepare input to a 10-year long-term plan / strategy, which was delivered on 1 October 2013 document should be a living document that is updated annually.

This was a challenging process and the University of Nordland put substantial resources work. We are formulating our strategy with a goal for the eye; contributing to sustainable value creation.

On the basis of the university’s academic environment and localizing the lead UiN In a region with strong coastal tradition and great added value related to the coastal zone, it was natural to focus on the following areas of the profile:

  • Blue growth
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Welfare

Also supranational body td UN concludes that the development in the coastal zone will be very important in the coming years. The population in the coastal zone will increase greatly, and the sea is crucial to solve global challenges such as access to more food and renewable energy, including bioenergy. The ocean plays also an important role in climate regulation.

Blue growth is thus founded on national and international strategies, where the goal is to achieve a sustainable development in the coastal zone is to draw global welfare. Therefore, it is also essential for the value creation processes that UiN will contribute to the University’s outstanding competence in innovation and entrepreneurship. This is critical for rapid and targeted processes related to innovation and improvement in both the public and private sectors.

Advanced technology and technical solutions are becoming increasingly important in both the public and private sectors. Today there are countless judges that the production is moved from låg- to høgkostnadsland because advanced technical solutions reduce production costs and increase the quality of goods and services.

Internally at UiN we have already pulled the advantages to combine advanced technology and biology at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (FBA). At the FBA has in recent years invested approximately 20 million in advanced technical analysis equipment within the field of genomics (analysis of the complete genome took different organisms). This equipment is used to gain a deeper understanding of the biological processes that make us better able to contribute to more sustainable solutions both from an environmental and economic perspective.

We do pioneering work by combine the most advanced knowledge and skills from two very different disciplines, biology and technology.

UiN will position itself with answers to global challenges and contribute to increased value creation. Therefore, the institution will integrate technology in research, development and teaching. Environmentally sustainable solutions are technologically based.

In a høgkostland that Norway must actively adopt new technology to have a competitive public and private sectors. Using advanced technological solutions have td both the oil industry and the aquaculture industry had a supernatural development over the last 40 years.

We have received business activities that have created the basis for a unique welfare increase.

In order to achieve this wish UiN to expand cooperation with technologically advanced environment, both nationally and internationally.

We take this measure to strengthen a Blue growth founded on innovation and entrepreneurship, which contributes to global wealth creation and welfare.
