WHO focuses on two Ebola vaccines – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Yesterday upward revision of the World Health Organization (WHO) enough once the numbers of confirmed died of Ebola in West Africa. The worst Ebola outbreak ever have now killed more than 3,000 people.

President Barack Obama said last night that the virus has the potential to affect all countries of the world.

During a global health conference in the White House, where representatives from more than 40 countries took part, Obama said that the fight against the virus must be prioritized in the world.

– With all the medical knowledge and advanced technology that is available, it is unacceptable that people die of the virus, because preparedness, planning and global coordination is poor, Obama said.

6574 people have been confirmed infected with the highly lethal virus. At least 3,091 have died, according to WHO.

Hardest hit are Liberia. More than 1,830 people are confirmed dead from the disease in the country, according to Reuters. At the same time the disease is detected increasingly in places previously not been proven.

Two vaccines

In Liberia believes a local doctor that treatment with HIV medicine Ebola infection are effective.

Dr. Gobe Logan has provided HIV drugs lamivudine for 15 of its Ebola patients. All but two of the patients survived, according to CNN.

This corresponds to a mortality rate of seven percent. In the rest of West Africa, the virus has killed about 70 percent of its victims.
