Firefox OS Developer Preview on Geek Phone Keon and Peak - DinSide

DinSide – The special Firefox OS is that it is completely open. No sitting with control. If … no, when this operating system will succeed the world a better place for everyone, said Gunnar Sellæghylla Telenor to our sister site Digi.no recently.

Firefox OS is thus Mozilla’s attempt to establish a operating system based on web applications, instead of apps as we know it from iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

A web application does in many ways the same as a website. In practice this means for example that “Facebook app” on Firefox OS is software that resides locally on the phone, but an icon that just sends you to the website m.facebook.com in a minimalist browser.

Currently available only in Firefox OS developer community, including on phones Keon (orange) and Peak (the white) from the company Geek Phone. Digi.no has received two such calls from Telenor, we thus have borrowed to give you a taste of the operating system. This is not the phones meant for consumers, but for developers who want to prepare for Firefox from mobiles such as Sony, LG, ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel.

Both phones are relatively low in fat and the user experience is not exactly silky, as you will see from the video above. But that is not operating yet done.
