Here is the first Jolla phone - DinSide

DinSide Finnish Jolla has unveiled its first smartphone with Sailfish OS, a reincarnation of MeeGo, the Linux-based mobile operating system developed by Nokia a few years back.

Nokia dropped MeeGo namely when they entered into partnership with Microsoft on Windows Phone, but developers behind operating system wanted it to live on, which started his own company.

“Magic” cover that can be replaced

MeeGoo has been renamed Sailfish OS, and now is the first phone with the new OS that is made public. The phone has simply been named Jolla (pronounced Yol-la).

Sailfish OS is a fully touch-based mobile operating system. Interface are somewhat reminiscent of the tile-based Windows Phone.

Viewed from the front looks Jolla phone like any smart phone, but the back cover is replaceable and come in a variety of colors. It is also not talking about a completely normal cover.

A feature called “The Other Half” replaced namely the user interface of the operating system for the type of cover you have, such as colors or content apps and media. How this works is somewhat unclear, but TechCrunch speculates that NFC can be the core.

Jolla phone is otherwise equipped with a 4.5-inch HD display, an unspecified quad-core processor, 4G LTE, 16 GB internal memory plus memory card slot and a removable battery. It also has an 8MP camera on the back (and one on the front).

Can run Android apps

Operating supplied, Sailfish OS, is also based on HTML5. According to our sister magazine Digi.no not controlled mobile’s user interface is controlled by physical buttons, but only by using finger gestures.

Another interesting detail is that Sailfish OS is compatible with Android. This means that you can install Android apps Jolla phone. According to Geek.com, you will not be able to download them from the Android Market store, but third-party options.
