Widerøe marketer Helgeland with pictures from Denmark - Rana Blad

In an ad in Thursday’s Aftenposten for Widerøe flight to Helgeland, used photos from the Danish tourist organization VisitDenmark.

– We used it to save money, says communications director at Widerøe, Konsteien, told Aftenposten.

Two pictures from Denmark

One of the photos shows a bicycle in front of a brick. Another a wet barefoot footprints on the wooden planks.

Both have taken a very different place than in Nordland, admits Kongsteien Aftenposten.

– But I guarantee that you can both ride and get on our feet in Helgeland, he adds.

Violation of Terms

In terms of the use of images from VisitDenmark, states inter alia that “the pictures alone must be used in connection with the marketing of Denmark as a country visit.» If the conditions are broken, VisitDenmark reserves the right to promote the claims.

Changes routines

After Aftenposten Widerøe made aware of the policy, the company will now avoid using “fake” images in future promotions.

– We are now taking away the image of the bike ads related to Norway, but retains it for the ads to Denmark, says King’s Stone.

Could received free pictures

Torbjørn Tråslett from Visit Helgeland do not understand why not Widerøe made contact with them.

– We have lots of great bike photos here, as Widerøe be obtained free of charge if they had asked.

– Cheaper to get forgiveness than permission

– Many people have found that it is cheaper to ask for forgiveness than permission for use of images from the Internet, said Gisel Hannemyr at the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo.

Hannemyr explains that normal legal practice to have printed images without law, they must pay two or three times a freelance rates, depending on whether the images are credited author or not.
