Happiness that affect our genes - AP

By: Marianne Nordahl , Forskning.no

Now it appears that it is not enough to experience happiness in life, from evolutionary point of view. Different types of happiness seems to affect your genes differently.

A type called eudaimonistisk happiness, which can provide a consistently meet and meaningful existence, seems to have a beneficial effect on your genes, according to researchers at University of Los Angeles.

The psychological profile that they have compared to, is not unhappiness, but a different kind of happiness, the hedonistic.

This is the kind of success growing style that can give you sudden bliss in the form of a real shopping trip, to be famous or a light kick in another way.

Both of these two varieties happy very good, but leads to very different reactions from our genes – one lucky and the other unfortunate, we believe the researchers’ study.

aim of the study was to find out more about how our genes react to positive psychology – that we feel the well-being and happiness.

before we know that there may be a health adverse changes in the immune cells that circulate in the body during periods when we experience stress as stress, threat or uncertainty.

The change means an increase of expression of genes involved in inflammation in the body , while less of those engaged in anti-virus work. Such genutttykk turn can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and some other diseases.

There was a similar services change researchers found the gene expression of the people among the 80 in the experiment, which showed high levels of hedonistic bliss.

It may simply act as our genome is much more sensitive to the various ways to achieve happiness, than it is in evidence public, according to a news release on the findings.

researchers emphasize that the one form of happiness need not exclude the other. But they see the kind of lasting happiness that can be achieved by experiencing some kind of meaning to life, health is set to recommend than to seek happiness in positive experiences.

Exactly why hedonistic happiness hit genetically unfortunate, not scientists conclude in their article about the findings, published in the journal PNAS.

But the suggests that the body makes in what way you achieve your luck in life.

subjects in the study were surveyed his happiness profile from several different angles. The researchers tested them thus for hedonistic and more constant wellness in life. In addition, they looked at potential adverse additional factors and behavioral characteristics of each one.

mirror gene expression of all of the people against the unfortunate expression profile as you can get as a result of stress, times of uncertainty and unhappiness, and it was there they found the similarity between this and hedonists gene expression.

class=”edrumParagraphtitle”> To do well vs. having good

It is natural to wonder if the reason might be that the hedonistic happy possibly an underlying black minds, with some pockets of euphoric desire happiness. But according to researchers, found not to be the case.

subjects who showed high levels of the so-called hedonistic good feeling, not experience life as worse than those who had a more basic satisfaction in itself, the study showed.

– Both types seemed to have the same high levels of positive emotions, but their genomes responded very different, despite the emotional mode was equally positive, says Steven Cole in the press release.

– The study tells us that to do well in life, and having the well have very different effects on the human genome, although they provide very similar nivåre of positive emotions.

Negative experiences can thus have detrimental effects on genes. It may seem unfair that people who have the sad in life, to have this on top of it all. But this may have had advantages in the past, scientists believe.

Perhaps this mechanism fits into the range of properties that were smart for us humans to possess a long time ago, but being a burden today.

We can suppose that the mechanism originally helped humans to build defenses in times of great social conflict, which could be beneficial to prevent infections in wounds or other contexts.

– But in modern society and our very different environment, it is so that a chronic activation triggered by social or symbolic threats can increase inflammation and cause cardiovascular disease, nevrogenerative and other diseases, and in addition it can weaken antivirus our defense, says Cole press release from UCLA.
