– Volvo Coupé Concept is a futuristic dreams. It is designed to show the capabilities of our new design architecture. Although the new XC90 is a totally different type of car, you will see the link to this concept car the minute you see it, says Thomas Ingenlath, design manager who is responsible for Volvo’s new design direction.

XC90 is a new large SUV Volvo pull the rug off in 2014. Volvo Coupe Concept will draw crowds during the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, and it is not clear if the Volvo is going to make a sports coupe based on the concept car.

Ingenlath tells excited about the new design direction for Volvo in connection with the first images released:

– New Volvo Coupe Concept reveals how we can shape our cars ahead. The car is devoid of the superficial “excitement” we look at other brands. We supply Volvo emotional value through calm, confident beauty – characteristics of Scandinavian design.

The delicate lines continues inside, where a large screen in the center console at the center for information and entertainment systems. Most notably is probably still the shift lever in the crystal. Exciting to see if it finds its way into a production model.


Hybrid with 400 hp

But even Volvo can survive on beauty alone. Although Coupé Concept’s primary function is to show Volvo’s design direction is traditional Volvo values ??such as safety and the environment in the middle.

Designer Thomas Ingenlath joined Volvo in 2012 to stake out the company’s new design direction. He believes Volvo has a unique opportunity to position themselves in the market.

– Since Volvo is the only surviving passenger car brand in Sweden, we are by definition the only car maker that can create original Scandinavian design. The challenge is to interpret it in a modern and interesting way.
