Nor-Fishing in Trondheim meet industry professionals from around the world. The world’s fisheries exhibition brings together actors with the latest technology, and Fisheries Minister was on hand to talk about the importance of aquaculture is to forward the time.
– We must significantly more food towards 2050 60. The UN has said that we may need 70 percent more food, and it is the ocean that will produce this food, says Fisheries Minister Per Sandberg (FRP).
At the fair presented everything from lubricating oil, engines and work to new technologies in fishing and not least, a lot of good seafood. 550 exhibitors from 25 countries were attending this year.
Want to keep fish live longer
Experts discuss how seafood nation Norway could be even better, and how countries can learn from us.
– we are working to develop techniques that allow us to keep the fish alive for a while, so that the meat becomes completely white, before the slaughter quickly and gently and cool before the freeze. When the quality optimal, says Kjell Midling who is the senior food research institute Nofima.
Can bring large gains
He thinks quality of Norwegian fish is best in the world, but that we still have much to learn. Nofima’s calculations show that better quality will give the fishing industry increased revenues in the hundreds of millions each year.
– One of the poor quality due to the equipment we use. Regarding yarn die some of the fish in the sea before it goes on board. When trawling becomes part of the fish lying in the receiving bin for several hours before it is slaughtered and eviscerated. When the quality deteriorates, says Midling.
But it is working ie towards a shift towards keeping fish alive after capture. Live Saved cod achieves up to 25 percent higher price than cod slaughtered immediately.
– I think we can learn a lot. If you compare that with Korea, Norway much better, says Philip Lee from South Korea.
– Norway is in the driver’s seat
Fisheries Sandberg believes Norway as fishery nation will become even more important in the future.
– Fisheries and aquaculture are the stakes we need to create new growth and jobs along the coast. Norway is in the driver’s seat, not just when it comes to seafood, but also in research, management expertise and technology. Many look up to Norway, says Sandberg.
