“I witnessed a tremendous technological development. A development that through … – Finnmark Dagblad

By Helle Østvik

When I was lucky enough to get a job in Finnmark Dagblad 26 years ago, I came to a bastion. On the publisher site Hammerfest a cornerstone company with its own business premises, printing in the basement, a whole floor full of journalists, one floor with marketing and accounting people and typesetters in its despotism on top.

Mediehuset had their own reviewers and service department, we had built our own farm, we owned houses and apartments where summer temps and new employees could stay. In local offices in Alta, Lakselv and Honningsvåg we welcomed with own receptionists.

We were attending, we set the agenda, we pulsed in the scent of evokes handbag, fix and ink. With social mission and Redaktørplakaten as invariable guideline.

At 26 years I have witnessed a tremendous technological development. A development that through years has rationalized away coworkers, instead of adding new ones.

When 2014 ticked in at midnight a year ago, escalated the move. During the past year there have emerged a new workplace, a new media company, founded on bastion Finnmark Dagblad where I was lucky enough to get a job 26 years ago. Today we see the outlines of the new; in line with future possibilities. Future Alpharetta and ready to set the agenda for an entire county, ready to be present to create identity and cohesion. Still we will be in one and all for Finnmark and people. Without a doubt.

Development price: Good work colleagues through 26 years. A painfully price to pay. Painfully for those who leave and not least for us who remain. 26 years with a “good morning” every day from familiar faces. Colleagues who follows you through life’s stages, unconditionally, as a solace in life. Provides advice, listening and will your best. As you are there for them; your flock.

People need people, so it is. It has 2014 taught me. Those you take for granted, that you see every day, without thinking much about it – they are a part of your life. An enrichment.

If there are people at work or people in your community. Whether it’s your classmates, they you meet on the training a few times a week, or the usual clerk at the store, they are all important parts of your life. An enrichment.

It’s about as simple that we all need each other. Not I sensed how much, before I during 2014 should experience the pain and sorrow of losing so many of my faithful and good colleagues.

At midnight ticked in 2014 in history and I can not but thank with all my heart for what has been.

And with that desire a brand new 2015 welcome.
