Facebook has adopted a restrictive approach when it comes to nudity, and it will be strictly enforced. Lately the company censorship of posts which reproduces the image of the so-called “napalm girl” in the Vietnam War received much attention in Norway. The central figure in the famous war photograph is a naked nine year old girl on the run.
At a meeting between Nordic publishers and Facebook recently, asked Nordic media if it was possible to use so-called geoblokkering – technology that allows content only may appear in certain parts of the world – to allow a more liberal attitude toward nudity in Scandinavia, writes Dagens Næringsliv.
– Facebook’s response was that they would consider such a solution and give us feedback. It has not arrived, so we asked again, said grid manager Frank Gander NRK. The technology is already used in connection with ad serving on Facebook.
Kristin Grøntoft Aftenposten has more faith that the media get rules that allow them to add more than the normal users can do.
– the media have an important role in public debate and making thoughtful editorial decisions on what should be published, she said. (© NTB)
