Trying new DNA technology on the 20 year old track in Trude Espås-case – TV 2

This is the biological material that was secured at the scene in Geiranger in 1996.

Kriminaltekniker and politioverbetjent Kurt Kim Rise have found a plastic bag inside the undersøkelsesrommet on politihuset in Ålesund.

Inside of this plastic bag is a plastic tube that contains biological material.

the Samples may contain the DNA of the man who killed Trude Espås (20) in Geiranger, 8. august 1996.

Make new investigations

Currently, there is no one who knows the answer. Therefore, the police in Sunnmøre asked the Norwegian institute of public health do new studies of the material that has been previously analyzed.

Monday was Norway’s foremost DNA expert Bente Mevåg invited to politihuset in Ålesund to talk about the possibilities to use new technology on the biological material contained in the case.

We have decided to send this material to new research. It has been 20 years and a lot has happened in the development of such surveys, tells påtaleansvarlig Yngve Skovly in Espås case to a Venue of Norway.

Investigators with the politihuset in Ålesund working with the case, want to try everything to perhaps finally solve drapsmysteriet.

200 tips

After the Scene Norway has sent more touches on the unresolved drapssaken has tips pouring in to police.

So far, it has progressed into approximately 200 tip that the police now sorts.

The most interesting tips will be followed up with questioning and further investigation. The last few weeks have several people that have come with the tips, been called in for questioning.

Tipsmengden that has come into a surprise to the experienced etterforskningslederen.

With the thought that this matter has been so much discussed periodically over so many years, so I think it has been a very demand of the tip, said Skovly.

– We can’t give up

After the Scene Norway discussed the matter, it has also been featured in both the Danish BT and Europe’s largest newspaper, German Bild.

Also the German TV-channel Mitteldeutschen Rundfunk sent at the weekend a fixture on the krimprogrammet Kripo TV (external website) where they prayed for the tip about the unknown German-speaking man who the police had made a fantomtegning in 1997.

With the thought of the many tips that have come into you the last few weeks, are you positive with the thought of a breakthrough in the investigation?

– It is difficult to say. The case is as said 20-year-old. It takes a lot, but we can’t give up, ” says Skovly.
