Stock gun with 3D printer - Tech Magazine

New technology could make Americans easy access to handguns even simpler:

For eight months ago decided the 25-year-old law student Cody Wilson to build the world’s first 3D-printed handguns, writes Forbes.

Wilson has printed out the gun he has called the Liberator.

And not only that. He has started a nonprofit organization, Defense Distributed, who plans to make the building description available online.

idea is that people will eventually find a variety of weapons drawings here. This means that anyone with access to a 3D printer that is able to produce the appropriate plastic material will be able to acquire a Liberator – and eventually other weapons.

Easy gun

Liberator, or liberator in Norwegian, is built of 16 parts and Wilson have written them out of ABS plastic in a Stratasys, Dimension SST.

The same machine is delivered in Norway by the company Protech Moss.

The only part that is not printed in the plastic is firing pin which is made of metal. In addition, Wilson added 170 grams of metal that weapon must follow the laws of the United States and be visible in a metal detector. The weapon can use standard ammunition of various calibres because the course can be replaced.

Although the Liberator is the first complete weapon it plans to publish the description of the building, the group has already posted printable drawings of magazines to popular assault rifles and other parts.

Meetings resistance

It has not gone unnoticed that the weapon can be almost ridiculously accessible and be deprived of all sorts kontrollmekansimer.

Statasys, producing 3D printers Defense Distributed used, canceled last year a lease with them when they heard how the equipment was used.

American politicians have also begun to stir, and Congressman Steve Israel has proposed to introduce legislation aimed at 3D printing of weapons.
