Mouse inventor is dead - Fædrelandsvennen

Engelbart died in the U.S. state of California on Thursday at the age of 88 years, stated that technological institute that bears his name. Without his efforts would today’s computer world looked very different, according to obituaries.

Already in December 1950, when computer technology was still in its infancy, the Engelbart have gotten the idea for a device that could be used to point to symbols on a screen. The facility we know today as a mouse, and symbols called icons.

The first mouse Engelbart built was a small box of wood with two metal wheels, which he patented in 1970. But until the end of 1970 showed the giants of the computer industry especially interested in the facility that currently exist on the desktop worldwide.

Michael Engelbart invented not only the mouse, he had a patent on a total of 21 innovations. In 2000 he was awarded the U.S. National Medal technology, the highest U.S. award for technological effort. (© NTB)
