Coarse bullying through yodeling online – Romsdals Budstikke

“Mobbeby”, “rykteby”, “baksnakkeby” – dear child has many names.

While the undersigned scroll through the entries in the messaging service Jodel, it says “very close” on geo-tag to most messages. Much of the activity takes place probably across the street from Rbnetts office in Molde high school. The problem first became known in Molde for concern from Romsdal high school. There are also indications that many users are located respectively Academy vgs and Molde University College.

Anonymous

mobile application based on the users, which apparently is 100% anonymous, records messages that end up in some kind of timeline. This timeline is based on GPS technology – all within a certain radius of the user’s position can read, comment and vote message up or down.

– We were told by our IT team, whose mission is to keep track of activity in social media relevant to school, that there was a new service that had been very popular with our students. It turns out that both teachers and students will be named in very negative terms. We have zero tolerance for bullying, and will strike hard at it, says Ivar Red, principal at Romsdal high school.

Zero Tolerance

When Rbnett spoke to Red, he had just come out of a meeting with management and union representatives, though precisely Jodel. He says that the school has closed messaging service out of its network, but this is of little help because the app is largely used via the mobile network.

– I and several managers have been contacted by students who seem content to be published app is ok. We have engaged the student council, which now enters the classroom and discourages students to use this app.

– We follow the on what is being written, and although it is often used only initials when people discussed, it is not hard to figure out what they mean. Most of them are barneslig skit chat. But once something illegal writing, if there comes a threat to the school or to employees, police reviewer we. We encourage students and parents to report to the police if they discover serious violations. This we must have zero tolerance for, says Red.

The principal of Molde vgs, Oddgeir Overå, says the school was recently made aware of the problem.

– We have not capacity or knowledge to be online police, but we encourage all who are violated or threatened to report the matter.

He believes anonymous postings on the Internet is a bad thing.

– Also in the comment fields to online newspapers, this is big problem.

Although these are largely being watched, he believes such website must lead by example.

– We are he knows the anonymous statements online is a big problem. Therefore such sites, including Rbnett not allow such practices.

Pupils react

The management at both Molde and Romsdal secondary schools report that students have contacted them regarding the app. Inside the timeline for Molde is also more critical messages about the service, although many have a strong ironic tone.

Student Council Chairman at Molde vgs, Ida Sofie Malo, is one of those responding. She says that it will be meeting for the student council on Thursday. Where should the application be discussed.

– We have zero tolerance for bullying. It’s amazing sucks that people are abusing this app. It’s basically a fun thing, where people can post things that are funny, but then there are some who use it to bully, harass or put out rumors. It’s not okay, says Malo.

No police reports – yet

He says that the school had previously had a good working relationship with the police when there is intimidation and harassment on line. Police in Molde state that they are aware of the app, but that thus far have not been any reviews.

On Wednesday a school in Tønsberg closed after it was made threats to school through Jodel. So far does most reprehensible messages in Molde on personal attacks, invasion and bullying. Often named persons, other times used initials that are easily interpretable.

When Rbnett asks, in app, if someone wants to speak, the immediate response is negative. “Unnecessary”, the saying goes. Other answers sincere, albeit anonymously:

The company behind Jodel and police confirms that people who publish messages with illegal content, threats, can not expect to remain anonymous.
