The fight against the flames are not always easy to win, but now it has reached a new weapon that can help. This is especially true for those living in fire prone areas.
– I think it’s smart built up, and that none have come on this before I think is absolutely incredible, says Oddbjørn Leikvoll, which is instructor in Oslo fire and rescue.
Such nozzles have been used as fire safety in the offshore oil industry in 25 years time. Now the technology is tested for use on land.
– There is a sprinkler system of a single dimension. It is only to set up, so you get a water wall that can protect against the spread of fire, escape corridor and heat, explains Leikvoll.
News for Old Stavanger
This method allows the walls with water can insulate houses from the flames. In this way the fire crew concentrate on the essentials; to save lives.
– The genius of this is that it is a simple mechanical thing, it has no moving parts and is produced by a steel piece, while it is maintenance-free, says Helge Stridsklev, who is general manager in Water Wall AS.
Residents of the timber city of Old Town will test the new system, they too are impressed.
– I think it was ingenious. This is something I’d love to have in Old Stavanger, Lillian Vindfallet, who lives in Old Stavanger, who got to test the nozzle.
Buyers in the country
But it is not just in Stavanger wooden houses are close together.
– We have pier Bergen, for example, but everywhere in Norway, we have listed buildings. Can we implement this here, so this will give a very good protection, says Stridsklev.
The goal is to get the jets on the market next year. It will be good, says the fire department.
– Based on our opportunities, this is a very interesting system, it is certainly something we could use, say Leikvoll.
