Norwegian design for home IT - digi.no

Equipment for home-IT – access points for wireless networks, chargers, storage devices, modems, routers – are rarely designed for them to be placed together in an aesthetically satisfying whole.

In 2009 decided the Norwegian supplier Jensen Scandinavia to do something about this. After nearly four years of development, the coordination of design, technology and software, they are ready with a new product line, named Koobrick.

units stacked on top of each other. Apparition is characterized by simplicity, and there are no flashing lights. Only after you press a button – in the back – and Koobrick from the light. The message is simple: Blue means everything is ok, red otherwise.

The basic aesthetics are clearly inspired by Apple, such as the Mac mini. Material and color choice can be discussed: it is chosen the same tinted white color on ur PCs from the 1980s, and some could probably wanted brushed steel option. On the other hand, there is no doubt that no one else can offer a similar collection of IT devices just as easily be placed visibly in a home environment without destroying the rest of the decor. There has been a particular point of Jensen to get to an access point for wireless network that does not need to be hidden in a closet or hidden otherwise. Jensen has no doubt succeeded in creating a product line with high WAF (“wife acceptancy factor”).

– Koobrick be driven by design and functionality. Technology should be modern, and the price will be competitive, but the design and functionality are the primary considerations, explains Karsten Kiss, CEO of Jensen Scandinavia.

Kiss think the market has had enough that flashing lights and divergent antennas, and the design will drive the market for home-IT in the future. Other considerations are modern technologies, quality, safety, easy installation and good support.

– We offer a 20 year warranty and free support by phone and email.

top of the stack is a docking with charger – called “Docki” – custom iPhone and iPad. It is designed in heavy acrylic: The weight of two kilograms allows charging device can be operated with one hand, without risk of overturning or displacement.

Below you can place the other Koobrick products in random order. Kiss does not preclude alternative to Docki will offer a cover that can hide the “Lego pegs” on the top unit.

These devices are an access point for wireless network, storage device, and empty box in which to place the modem, router, splitter, USB drives and so on.

Access Point, Koobrick Wifi, offers 300 megabits per second in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It has two ports for wired LAN, one for WAN and a USB port that can be connected as a USB disk. Setup is done via a web interface that is designed to be as simple as possible for both users and support.

– Do you get a problem, all support requests be available, but to get instructions on “click Your “,” Select daughter, “says CTO Jensen, Glyn Parker.

storage device, Koobrick Boxi, can be supplied with two hard drives with up to two terabytes each, which can be configured in RAID. One USB port can be used for fast copying of files from PCs, or as backup onto a USB disk. Kiss Jensen says he tried to get to a junction between Boxi and backup in the cloud, but they have not gotten to yet.

Seen from the outside is the last device, Koobrick Roomi, identical Boxi. The difference is that Roomi is empty. The idea is that it will accommodate second ugly units, disk drives, modems, remote controls, game controllers and user manuals. It has its own cable collectors to keep better track.

Koobrick units are designed for remote upgrade of system hardware: You choose the layout if you want to allow this to happen completely automatically, or if you want to be notified first and then trigger the update itself.

Suggested retail prices, including VAT, is 1295 million for each of Koobrick Wifi and Koobrick Boxi (without drives), 595 million for Docki and 295 million for Roomi.
