Windows 8 Microsoft has given large sums - Hardware.no

Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, can show good results for the first quarter.

Keeps going strong even though PC sales are falling.

Microsoft has bared statements for the first quarter, and things seem to be going quite well for the software giant. For though PC sales have fallen by 14 percent during the first three months, Windows sales increased by 23 percent.

Windows then helped with $ 5.7 billion to Microsoft, equivalent to approximately 33 billion Norwegian kroner.

With fewer new PCs with Windows sold, this should mean that more people have upgraded to a newer version of Windows. And even though this has been many discounts out there and gone is the total earnings of Windows on par with a year ago.

Xbox increasing sharply

Windows outcome was just one of several things Microsoft was happy with. Xbox Live service has grown by 46 percent. Xbox and Kinect increased in total by 56 percent, and brought in 2.53 billion dollars.

Further, the new cloud-based office suite Office 365 on track to earn a billion dollars a year alone.

earned a total of $ 20.5 billion, or nearly 120 billion in the previous quarter. This is 18 percent more than the same period last year.

Focusing on smaller devices

decline in sales of desktop computers is obviously worrying for Microsoft – it is after all the PC’s they collect most of the revenue.

To make Windows 8 PC is even more attractive, it is therefore expected that a new Windows 8 version (“Blue”) will emerge over the summer, where more of the classic Windows-feeling returns.

In a further attempt to get into the growing tablet market, it is now clear that we will get smaller devices with Windows in the future.

Probably it’s Microsoft’s own tablet surface which will appear in a 7-inch version.
