Facebook announced yesterday that the company will buy Parse, a company that provides cloud-based application platform for applications for both iOS, Android, Java Script, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and OS X. The company has been operating for less than two years, but provides server services to more than 60 000 different applications. This includes data storage services, push-based notifications, user management and social integration.

Parse be made part of the Facebook Platform. The purpose is to make it easier and faster for developers to build applications for multiple mobile platforms and mobile devices. Services should make it unnecessary for application developers to manage server operations and infrastructure. Instead, developers could focus on the user experience.

announcement from Facebook says that the company does not intend to change how Parse works for existing customers.

– We will continue to offer their products and services, and we are thrilled to expand the Facebook and Parse can offer together, writes Facebook.

Parse has confirmed the acquisition plans in a separate announcement. The comments meet the news with considerable skepticism. But Parse emphasizes that the acquisition does not in any way affect how existing, Parse-based applications. It shall not be necessary to include Facebook-oriented functionality of the applications, if developers do not want this.

acquisition is considered a part of Facebook’s effort to be more relevant among developers for mobile platforms. Unlike some of the main competitors, Facebook does not have its own mobile platform. Facebook Home for Android is a first attempt to take control of your mobile experience to the users, but the interest in software has so far proved to be quite limited.
