Fourth generation Galaxy S from Samsung starting to get a pedigree to be proud of. When the first edition came three years ago, fought the very top to the HTC Desire. Today repeats the competition between HTC and Samsung itself. We’ve got Galaxy S4 to the test.
This year, it is of course not Desire model compete with HTC, but the new HTC Merge One, which has received universal praise for the design. It is unfortunately also delayed the market. A competitor who is late, Sony and their waterproof delinquent Xperia Z.
To confusingly similar to the old
Two years ago, the Galaxy S II a clean sweep. There was virtually no equally strong power demonstrations in the market, and the phone won it come of tests and prices. Last year we concluded that the gap had decreased, but the Galaxy S III ever had a head start. So how do you measure Samsung’s new top model in?
As we mentioned a couple of times before – design does not differ greatly from last year’s model. During the test, we had a blue version of its predecessor left for comparison purposes. Several times we have picked up the blue, without actually registering the difference before the screen come on. Once the screen comes on, there is an enormous difference here.
Bright AMOLED display
screen in the Galaxy S4 is slightly larger than that of its predecessor – up from 4.8 to 5 inches. The really big difference is brightness and sharpness.
Although HD screen in the Galaxy S III was good, there is no doubt that full-HD screen Galaxy S4 appears to be a little bit sharper. In addition, it is significantly brighter than any other AMOLED screen we’ve seen so far. It is so bright that it does not differ very much from conventional LCDs, which have previously been AMOLED absolutely superior on this particular point.

Combined with the Galaxy S4 has a glass over the screen with very little reflection in, making this phone easy to use even in some challenging situations with strong sunlight around.
It is so remarkably little reflection in the monitor, that in some cases it may look as if the screen is matte. It stands in stark contrast to the more mobile screens on the market – the worst thing you will see an almost constant reflection of yourself in. It works very poorly as soon as the sun comes up and gives blinding glare that the screen can not drown.

Although the screen thus have been a little larger, not the phone it. That it is considerably handier than Samsung’s mobile phone, the Galaxy Note II, is a major plus in the margin.
Narrower display frames

What has changed is relatively small details. The frames around the screen has been narrowed, the frame around the mobile phone has become a bit wider, it is less curved surfaces here. In addition, the paint got a pattern effect in the bottom, which differs from the metal by equation Galaxy S III had the colored versions.
Weaker quality feel than the competition
Samsung has chosen not to make the Galaxy S4 resistant to water or moisture, so Sony Xperia Z is.
In short, quality feeling Galaxy S4 and is not on a par with that you can get from HTC One or Sony Xperia Z. The two are built respectively in aluminum and glass. However, it is likely that the Galaxy S4 is as durable as them both, and possibly more resistant to impact than Sony’s model, since Samsung phones do not have glass on the back. Sony wins to be waterproof, but has weaker screen than Galaxy S4.

menus are, as usual for the series, Android with Samsung’s Touch Wiz customizations on top. It is still easy to recognize Google’s basic setup to the metal, but adaptations are becoming more extensive.
The design has been little change with each new version, but Samsung has stuck to a relatively colorful menu system, showing the colorful AMOLED screens from its most conspicuous part.
daily menus are lightning fast – without it being unique to Samsung phones anymore. Top models from all the major mobile manufacturers are currently fast enough and it’s hard to notice a difference at them with the naked eye.

There are a few differences you will definitely notice the Galaxy S4. Firstly responds screen look and often before at all is touching it. The function is called Floating Touch, and assumes that the monitor is able to notice that your finger is close even before it touches the screen.

Among other differences we may note is that Samsung has added a button in the top menu that shows a tremendous amount of speed dial that can be turned on or off. To change the order of these buttons, so someone will always appear on one row of buttons that are always visible when you pull down menu. The list that displays all speed dials seem like a bit messy.
An updated set menu is also new here. We first encounter the menu is a bit confusing and different – but after a short time we become accustomed to it. As extensive as the setting menus are about to be, this fourfold tab display the correct way to do it – and something Apple could learn from, for the latest versions of iOS.
A special simplified mode has also been up to. It means that you’ve never used a smartphone before, relatively safe bet Galaxy S4. If it seems too complicated right now, you can choose to use it as a much simpler phone until you have become accustomed to it.
