Gass or petrol? - Aftenbladet.no

few years ago tanked most motorists liquid fossil fuels. Some built albeit on the cars so they could run on LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), and very few were in various hydrogen and electric vehicle trials. Until three years ago.

When stuck Mitsubishi wall socket and triggered electrical shock in Norwegian BILOMSETNING. The enormous interest in electric vehicles and hybrid traditional images Toyota Prius, parked other environmental options that plug-in hybrid cars and gas / petrol cars.

But a quiet revolution may be underway on the vehicle front as a result of increasingly better access to biogas produced locally by municipal waste and sewage.

Therefore duel this time VW eco-Up that can run on both natural gas (CNG = compressed natural gas), biogas (LBG = liquid bio gas) and gasoline toward more traditional, but still brand new Hyundai i10.

Hyundai i10

It is said that the difference between a small and large car soon just about size. Where are Hyundai i10 themselves.

A neat, small car. But bald deceive, for you have no idea really how much i10 is before you pack it with four adults and luggage necessary weekend. It goes into everything – and with 87 hp under the hood of the car bear both the load and uphills.

For us therefore appears to Hyundai i10 as a full and quite competent small car in the intersection of the class, where Toyota Yaris rules the bestseller list.

Now is it for the car, like in life that you get what you pay for. Therefore cost Hyundai i10 as well the same as hybrid Yaris when equal benefits are measured against each other. 180.000 million is a pretty stiff price for the car in minute class. Which again proves that it is not necessarily the size of the vehicle that affect the price, but also very much what is put into it.

In i10 Hyundai has put in the most you would expect in a modern car, including heated steering wheel, Hill Start holder, automatic climate control, parking sensors and class-leading handling. You will be amazed how straightforward i10 is having to do even when the weather makes the roads almost impassable.

But while it lacks – which is still too many cars from Asian manufacturers – different driver assistance systems that prevent falling asleep at the wheel, driving off the road or running on vulnerable road users.

Hyundai’s best card against competitors are still seven-year warranty, which in practice means seven years of trouble-free driving.

VW eco-Up

This is a clear urban car than the Hyundai i10, but three cylinders and 68 hp makes the short breather although only one on board.

Up is basically even less than i10 and recorded only four, while i10 five loads. But our research shows small differences in the interior space.

Up perceived as a clearly less expensive car with “simpler” than i10 interior. For example, no rear windows cranked down, and you have to lean over the passenger next to open window in the front passenger door.

This is in stark contrast to the price. VW eco-Up in the tested version actually cost 20,000 pounds more than the i10, ie NOK 200,000.

Neither matchup driving experience in i10, and did not make it just as well on poorly plowed roads. In a few cases we gave up Up, while i10 easily picked up.

return had tested both the Up navigation and “City Safety” which automatically brakes the car and stops it altogether in byfart if the driver is inattentive and did not see the obstacle in front. Great to be in such a small car.

Up score also the environment. Run on biogas not escape a single fart. All farts are already in circulation and makes the car completely climate neutral.

Full gas tank gave us approximately 330 km range with mixed winter driving. When we had left ten gallons of gasoline to save us to the nearest tank. But more on the economy elsewhere.

VW has made great success in Norway with Up after electric variant took showrooms towards the end of last year. At the same time the Danish clearly best-selling car model last year.

Accelerating

Gas has for many years been taxed lower than petrol and diesel, but high ombygningskostnader botched gladly math. Factory-made gas cars change this.

So far there are mainly Volkswagen has actively invested in natur-/biogassbiler in Norway, with little Up as important passenger. With gas tank provides Up 68 hp and costs only 2,000 pounds more than the gasoline car with 75 hp.

It is not anyone who can benefit from such a car. Bidding will be access to fuel and construction are in still in “trial and error” stage. But certain it is profitable if you have a thought station nearby.

This is the math with VW eco-Up in test against Hyundai i10:

  • Mileage 332.0 km on both cars. Then the gas tank Up near empty.
  • Cost i10: 0.529 liter petrol / mil pump price 15.32 NOK / liter = 0798 kr / km.
  • Cost eco-Up: 13.3 Nm a £ 12.79 / Nm = 0512 kr / km .
  • Annual fuel savings of 4297 million with driving distance of 15,000 km.
  • Nm = normal cubic meter, an international unit of natural gas equivalent to 0.948 standard cubic meters (Sm).

Gas prices vary around the country. Aga takes 12.79 million / Nm for clean biogas by E18 on Slependen outside Oslo, while Lyse Energi in Stavanger calls for 8.85 kroner / Nm for biogas and 7.35 million / Nm 33 percent biogas (third biogas and 2 / 3 natural gas).

From waste to fuel

The Best of biogas is that it is both climate-neutral and can be produced locally. So far are biogas in test stage in Norway. As fuel is used primarily by business and government agencies.

Very few private thoughts natur-/biogass and only 48 new cars that could use these fuels were registered last year. Otherwise, 222 vans with gas operation phased in the Norwegian fleet in the last four years, according to figures from the Norwegian Road.

climate enthusiasts with environmental organization Zero spearheaded produced biogas as the best fuel because it is carbon neutral. Also, the cars as an emergency also run on gasoline.

example, Up ten liters large fuel tank sufficient for a scant 20 mile drive with gentle throttle. The gas tank had time to 320 km below the prevailing driving conditions.

benefits of biogas:

  • Renewable fuel
  • local production – local consumption
  • Sustainable both locally and globally
  • Extremely low emissions of sulfur, particulates, CO

Biogas is part of nature’s own circuit consisting of 97 percent methane and obtained from the decomposition process of organic waste. Since the gas already in the cycle of nature, it is defined as climate neutral. Engines designed for regular gasoline, can be easily adapted biogas operation.
