Here are the best pictures in 2014 - AP

Annual World Press Photo scorer this year’s best pictures in the world. American John Stan Meyer won the Grand Prize this year.

World Press Photo award is considered the most prestigious independent award for photojournalism and is distributed 57 times.

Year was the American John Stan Meyer who won with a picture of Djibouti’s coast. It shows a group of migrants according to the image following text attempts to bring in cheap mobile signals from neighboring Somalia and thus call home.

Djibouti is a frequently used transit country for African migrants from countries such as Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia on the way to a better life in Europe.

category “Stories” was a nice third place for the English photographer Marcus Bleasdale for a larger photo documentary he did for National Geographic in September last year.

Marcus Bleasdale has lived in Norway for many years and is married with VG-photographer Karin Beate Nøsterud. His photo series from western fjord you can see HERE ( requires authorization ).

World Press Photo winner John Stan Meyer competed throughout 5700 photographers from 132 countries. The categories range widely, from sports and nature photography, to portraits, various news categories and everyday life.

Over 98,000 images this year was submitted to the competition, many of them from the world’s war zones, particularly Syria.

John Stan Meyer is a veteran photojournalist subject and has worked for years for National Geographic and Time Magazine.
