came many strong reactions around the world as the giraffe Marius Copenhagen Zoo was euthanized, necropsied front of the audience and given as food to the park’s carnivores last weekend.
A giraffe with the same name risked being killed in Jyllands Park Zoo in Videbæk, because a new male giraffe was waiting to park.
Marius genes were well represented among giraffes in the breeding program and should be euthanized to prevent inbreeding and ensure healthy animals in the future.
Jyllands Park Zoo has on their Facebook pages promised that no more giraffes must pay with his life after The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria urged the zoo to not execute after slaughter. The association also discourages the zoo to cater for a new male giraffe. (© NTB)
