Gina Krog has waited 40 years in technology - E24

– Finally, the construction started, says Svein Olav Hoyland.

He is the director of field development by Gina Krog in the North Sea, and the first steel has just been cut on Hereema shipyard in the Netherlands. This is the same yard that also built Valemon platform.

Gina Krog steel was cut 11 December. Hoyland has worked with Gina Krog seven years.

According to Statoil will jacket the largest ever built at the shipyard. It will weigh 17,000 tons and will be 142 meters high, before it is lowered to the seabed in the spring of 2015.

seabed targets 60 times 50 meters. At the top are the dimensions 42.5 times 26.25 meters. In addition, the drilling module weighing 250 tons. This should be integrated into the platform deck lower level.

Also Terje Masdal, project director Gina Krog plant development, is in place in the Netherlands to mark the new phase project enters in.

– It is an incredibly special feeling to see the first steel cut, he says.

planning and engineering has been going on about. 10 months, now going project into the construction phase.

– So far we are very satisfied with the job Hereema done with the configuration, now we expect them to deliver the chassis to the field as agreed at the right quality and with good HSE performance, he continued.

Dagny

It is 40 years since Gina Krog found. As the name Dagny. But with the lack of technology, the field was left long. Moreover Dagny less than you hoped for 40 years ago.

– In the 70′s there was a move only on elephant hunting. Dagny, that field was called then, was a “pingle field” in relation to other discoveries made at the time, and it was just gas, said Hoyland.

1974, the same year both Statfjord and Sleipner Vest found. In 1978, what would become the group’s first field development – Gullfaks – found, and the following year went champagne corks, according to Statoil, the ceiling for discoveries Oseberg, Snorre and Troll.

– In one such company was Dagny little – and it’s was natural enough developed first, Statoil states on its website about Gina Krog.

In the late 1990s, most elephants developed. Dagny was revived.

group so therefore closely at the geological landscape of the surrounding areas Dagny. In 2006 the prospect Ermitrude defined. A tilleggsfunnn could provide new opportunities, and in 2007 it was found both oil and gas prospect.

geologists wondered then if it could be oil under the gas Dagny and that it could be a continuous oil zone during both Ermitrude and Dagny. In 2008 it was drilled new wells and the suspicion was confirmed.

– We drilled a little deeper. Then we found oil well, said Helge Lund at a press conference at ONS in 2008.

225 million barrels

According Hoyland shows delineation wells that reservoir probably contains about 225 million barrels of oil equivalent, but estimates range since the field is complicated.

One of the reasons that Gina Krog development has had to wait was the need for technological development in the drilling of horizontal wells.

– The reservoir is like the shell of an orange, rotary steerable systems and geosteering wells makes it possible to connect directly to the wells and to extract greater reserves in a more efficient manner. It makes it profitable to develop the field.

– Now we are reaping the technological developments that have taken place in the group and the industry since the field was discovered, explains Hoyland.

oil from Gina Krog be loaded aboard a converted oil tanker from the Heidrun field as a storage vessel. Heidrun get a new storage vessel currently under construction at Samsung shipyard in South Korea.

same yard will also platform deck to Gina Krog built, with construction start in July next year.

– Now we are working to mobilize people to follow up the construction project. Some are in place, but we need more, says Terje Masdal.

According to Statoil will be summer 2015 start drilling by Gina Krog wells. The rig that will do the job is currently under construction in Singapore. There is much to be in place before the start of production, the first quarter of 2017.
