32 percent check work email after Christmas. It shows MapowerGroups Work Life-study of the Norwegians’ views on flexible working.

entire 15 percent responded that they check your work email on Christmas Eve, and 16 percent say that it also checks the first and second day of Christmas.

CEO Maalfrid Brath in Manpower recommends that more people are taking time off for the holidays.

– For the vast, vast majority do not need to be as accessible to the job that you have read work emails in the days of Christmas, says Brath.

Gender Differences

study shows that it is mostly men who check work email on Christmas Eve – 21 percent of men and only 8 percent of women.

Brath said that the explanation here is not unlike job responsibilities, but rather that men should learn from women by linking the job completely.

President of Nito, Trond Markussen, believes that the holiday should be used on the family and not work.

Are you still in the situation that you need to write e-mail to colleagues so it may be a tip to enter deferred delivery over the holidays, so that you also have to ensure that second reading mail and working holiday, said Markussen.

Markussen points out that employers generally do not expect that one is available for the holidays.

If you receive important e-mails that you read holiday you can not ignore them – for example, if you are notified by email that the company gets daily fines of large sums if not a technological problem solved.

you spend a lot of time of work in vacation, remember that it is made visible, so you can take it into overtime or time off later, says Markussen.

of habit

Markussen think that checking email more out of habit and curiosity, than because it is a requirement by an employer.

We are used to being online and when it feels completely natural to check the mail. Now we do it the easy mobile and tablets as from pc so it’s even lower threshold for “I’ll just check the mail to see if there has been something interesting.”

According to him, it is positive also for the employer that employees use energy, and head on things other than work at times.

Christmas and New Year time is an excellent time for activities other than job if possible. By linking out we get greater motivation and commitment to the job when the holiday is over.
