Fewer, but more serious konfliktsaker - Lofot Journal

Fire, “tapping” of credit cards, fraud, harassment, vandalism and violence are some of the types of cases that are treated in Middle Halogaland last year.

– The cases that come to the Mediation is becoming more and more serious, but we find that the parties usually reach an agreement in mediation meetings. Experience shows that personal meetings often leads to accountability, understanding, and thus agreement between the parties. The agreements signed in Mediation involves financial compensation, work to be performed or that the parties talking together and sign a reconciliation agreement, the message from the Head of Office Vera Andersen.

– for example, got youngsters who accidentally set fire to a building, meet the owner, regret what they had done and enter into an agreement to clear temporary housing and to pay the owner’s insurance deductible. Or the person who made misappropriation of the employer, had the opportunity to meet employer had explained what had happened and agreed on a deal for a refund of the employer’s loss. The person who “tapped” buddy’s ATM card, met his friend in a mediation meeting, admitted the incident and made up for it.

In Middle Halogaland there in 2013 handled 178 cases, which is a slight decrease compared to 2012.

Also at the national level, there has been a decline in the number of cases. There were 7256 cases in 2013 to 7920 years before. It dominates violence cases with 1,600 cases. The second largest category is offense, intimidation and bullying with 1076 cases.

Nationwide, there were registered 615 cases involving local community conflicts, or substantially neighbor disputes.

Mediation Council of Mediation focuses on the action that is done, the consequences for others and what is needed to repair the damage. There are 22 National Mediation across the country that employs approx. 600 agents.
