Google Motorola sells to China - Aftenposten

Google bought Motorola for 77 billion in 2012, but sold the same year away part of the Group of 14 billion.

I have not been able to position Motorola in the smartphone market, which is dominated by South Korean Samsung and U.S. Apple.

While Motorola is now being sold to Chinese Lenovo, they retain about 17,000 patents.

– Google got what they wanted and needed from Motorola, they got the patents, talent development and insight into the mobile market, said technology analyst Jack Gold.

Lenovo bought in 2005 the PC division to computer giant IBM, and sold last year more PCs than any other manufacturer.

The Chinese group has 27,000 employees in over 60 countries, but has struggled to gain a foothold in the lucrative smartphone market.
