Space in Berlin was discoverable with Nazi names on Google - Aftenposten

Square was named after Hitler in the Nazi years, but the name was changed to Theodor Heuss’ place after the war.

A user has added the former name of the place as an alternative search name in the digital map. Six days later, the change approved.

– For all of our maps to be as precise and user-friendly as possible, all changes are added by users, assessed by either voluntary or Google moderators. In this case, the change of name approved by mistake, says Google spokeswoman in Germany, Lena Wagner.

– We corrected the error as soon as we were made aware of it and apologize for the mistake, she adds.

Square in West Berlin called Reichskanzlerplatz from 1906 to 1933 and again from 1947 to 1963. It was so named after the former West German President Theodor Heuss. (© NTB)
