She was 32 years old when World War II ended, 56 years since Neil Armstrong took man’s first steps on the moon and 76 years old when the Berlin Wall fell.
Gudrun Johnsen fills Friday 100 years and believes that the key to a long and rich life is to behave nicely.
– I’ve lived a nice and easy life, and has done so much wrong. My life has been pretty normal. I have raised four children in the best way and now have several grandchildren and great-grandchildren than I can keep track of, so I’m very happy with it, says Johansen.
Not much trouble
100-year-old lives in his own apartment Mortensnes nursing home after she was widowed after Arnes its demise in 1999. She is a real tromsø girl born in Skippergata and grew up in northern city, along with parents and two brothers. She traveled to Oslo and was in service there until she met her Arne, who apprenticed as a painter.
They journeyed home to Tromsø, got married and came to have four children. They built houses on Røstbakken where they lived for many years. Gudrun worked in the radiology department at the University Hospital in Tromsø for 25 years, and now she thinks that maybe the nurses at the nursing home fits a little too well for her.
– There are not many scandals here in the yard. They fit well on me, so it’s not so much mischief I get groomed capable, she chuckles.
First time on Rorbua
Yesterday invited nurse at the nursing home Arne Brændeland and Charlotte Solberg 100-year-old on a bursdagsøl on Rorbua. Johnsen namely a love of life benefits in the form of cigarettes, brandy and beer.
– I smoke it I get, but the roll I have no time. I’m too busy to live, she laughs as she gets served a bayer and brandy at Rorbua.
She has not been before.
– I can not remember having been Rorbua before, but it’s very cozy here. It is not often I get ripped out and take a beer anymore, so this was very nice. A bit much fuss, but it’s not every day you fill the 100.
Three days of celebration
Now it’s time for a whole weekend of celebration. Friday marked the birthday with residents and staff at the nursing home and Saturday are the big family of her visit.
Thursday she also received a telegram from His Majesty the King with the birthday greeting, and Rorbua she handed a “license” from the board authorized to tell good stories and northern Norwegian allowed to smoke inside.
– Then there was a little scandal still, she laughs as she picks a move.
– How healthy it is I do not know, but I now live yet, and when they were my age you have to be allowed for such. If you feel like, one law.
Everything in moderation
Arnfinn Eek, general manager of the National Centre for Ageing and Health is impressed that Gudrun still smoking and drinking, but believes the key to be so old all about opinion and activity.
In Norway we are growing older and in 2010, 0.7 percent of our population over 90 years. This trend does not seem to stop anytime soon.
– The standard of living suggests that more of us are going to be older in years to come. The genetic packed lunch they get from their parents play a big role here, but also physical activity and having a reason to get out of bed every morning is incredibly important to achieve such a high age, says Eek.
