This could discharge lamps started to burn - Adresseavisen

Is the screen on fluorescent yellow or brownish? Please see the links under the lampshade?

Are the links below discolored? If you answer “yes”, “yes” and “yes”, the fluorescent your being flammable, says Jon Henry Leer el-surveyor and CEO of Norwegian Power – Control AS.

May start to burn

Leere believe there are thousands of such lamps in Norwegian homes and workplaces, which at worst can start burning. The reason is that there is a process in fluorescent lamps without cover for links below the screen.

– UV rays from fluorescent lamps initiate an impact on the insulation, especially PVC insulated wires. It may be substances in the insulation, possibly pigments, which influences the rays of light pipes, said Leere.

– Connection Managers can have different colors in principle, but has lost the color in the process, and is also brittle or dry. If the link is also blue-green, it means that the chlorine stand out. Chlorine is caustic and corrosive, and makes poor contact. Such a process is flammable in the long term, says Leere who have registered several fires in customers with such lamps.

He recommends replacing damaged equipment. What should be considered with regard to the age of the product, scope and not least cost to the user.

open fire and electricity are the major causes of fire, according to the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning. Lighting equipment caused 35 fires last year, 59 fires in 2011 and so far 13 fires this year. The figures are updated by the DSB as they receive reports from the police.

Warns extensions

– The most serious we discover the error enclosures and downlights, in addition to illegal connections and extensions. There is extensive use of extension cords in Norwegian homes. Many are cheap and of such poor quality that it is a fire hazard in itself. Often the extension cord limited amount of energy and can withstand a lot less stress than you think, says Paul Sandli.

Sandli is elsikkerhetskonsulent and appraiser in Norway Assessment Federation (NTF). He looks particularly often wrong mounted downlights.

– Approximately 90 percent of all downlights are improperly implemented. You are not the vendor description when to connect and install. Many skilled workers also make mistakes and minimize problems, says Sandli.

main problem with downlights is that they are put in a box in the ceiling, which is also used as a junction box, according Sandli.

– The box is not approved junction box. The consequences can be bad link, and it is serious that the link is not in a dense fire compartment. A downlights box can have large openings and gaps, fire can quickly spread. You have very little control over what is built into the ceiling, says Sandli.

smell it burning, you should check the ceiling, think Sandli.

– ground wire is life insurance your

Sandli experience that many individuals are setting up bathroom fittings that are not grounded.

– All houses will be delivered with predefined lamps. Then buy one lights a second time, and set it up yourself.

– ground wire is your life insurance. If you omit the ground wire in the connection, we put ourselves at risk of electric shock, says Sandli.

standing on a ground floor, and takes on an ungrounded fixture with earth leakage, one may get an electric shock.

– It felt good, and chances are high that it happens, if you have ground fault. But the damage is often the case, and are usually defined as a home accident, says Sandli.

– You can not install fixed equipment itself. You can plug in a cord. Anything outside cover of the socket can be done, can not touch any of the fixed installation. It requires knowledge, says Sandli.

What can you do yourself?

Non-skilled workers can only perform less work in connection with electrical installations in private dwelling, if such work is carried out safely, according to the DSB. With less work means:

  • Replacing cover for junction boxes, switches and sockets, but not the actual wall fixed part.
  • Removing and replacing heaters if they have a mobile cord and plug.
  • Connect or replace two-pole plugs in mobile cord to and including 25 A, with and without grounding.
  • Connect or replace two-pole couplers, apparatus connectors and cable mount switches.
  • Connect sconces, table lamps etc. with movable wire and cable mount switches.
  • Connect and change lamps hanging in the ceiling hook or the like, connected with plug / socket, crown block or “sugar,” unless the lamps are considered part of the fixed installation. It must be strain relief on the cord so that the wires are not charged physically.
