Aftenposten: Have found spy equipment outside Parliament and Prime Minister residence – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Aftenposten now report that it is placed false base stations around Oslo, which can monitor the movements of people passing by and pick out candidates for eavesdropping.

But who owns the base stations are not known.

“No Norwegian authorities Aftenposten has been in contact with, says that this is equipment that belongs to them,” writes the newspaper.

– Both private and government can stand behind

There should be talking about IMSI catchere, which detects mobile phones within a certain radius. Police Security Service (PST) state that they are familiar with Aftenposten’s revelation, and has been in dialogue with the newspaper.

– We will not comment on the findings newspaper comes with, but it is not unlikely that this type of activity going on. It can be both private and public actors behind, says senior adviser Siv Alsén PST Dagbladet.

According Alsén are talking about equipment that can not listen in on calls, but that can extract number information from phones in the designated area, called IMSI number.

– We can not say that the discoveries made can be linked to illegal intelligence activity where states are behind. But we can not exclude it, she says.

The equipment in question is, according PST difficult to hunt. It can be very mobile, for example hidden in a suitcase and just screwed a few seconds at a time. Therefore prioritize agency rather to prevent such threats to sensitize politicians and stops on the safe use of mobile and computer equipment.

– Advanced technology

As Aftenposten themselves state they have collaborated with companies Aeger Group and CEPI Technologies, which has very precise measuring equipment for locating fake base stations.

– They came to us and gave us an assignment. We’ve done our research and analysis, and it is very clear conclusions, says Jahn-Helge Flesvik in Aeger Group Dagbladet.

– Some of this advanced technology, says Flesvik.

Several of the base stations were registered outside Parliament. Press Guard in Parliament say they continually work to increase awareness of safety in representatives and employees.

– When it comes to communication security is basically all communication on regular mobile phone must be considered to be open. This means that sensitive information can not be shared here or via other means of communication can be intercepted, said pressevakt Flemming Kjerschow in Parliament.

– If there is intent illegal base stations in downtown Oslo this is a matter for police to investigate, he said.
