Deputy in the NPT, Einar Lunde, convenes National Security Authority (NSM) and other key players to a meeting Tuesday. There he will clarify what to do after Aftenposten’s revelation about mobile spying in downtown Oslo.
– I think the there is a special situation that it is Aftenposten that brings this to us. I want to give you praise for their work that you have done, as others obviously should have done, says Lunde Aftenposten.
– Who should have done the job?
– There are many pointing in this context, but we must go in ourselves and ask ourselves whether we have been enough to present in this area.
Neither the NPT, Police Security Service or National Security Authority was aware of the surveillance, which enables all moving in the central areas of Oslo can be monitored via the mobile phone.
Mobile networks are NPT responsibilities, but Lunde emphasize that they are not engaged in counterintelligence or counterintelligence. However, they have the responsibility to follow up safety requirements within the limits Parliament has decided. Then there is Økokrim PST or the police’s responsibility to follow up any offenses.
– The meeting on Tuesday is first and foremost about seeing what we can initiate technical measures. We must see if we can do something about our ability to detect illegal surveillance.
Lunde believes that there is a big challenge that in Norway have outdated technology, and believe that we should get more on the offensive to prevent newer technology breaks into our systems.
