Larsen, who was chief of NSM from 2003 to 2005, believes that agencies should protect the country against eavesdropping and bottling of digital information, not pulling in the same direction, Dagsavisen.
– We need a Security Minister that everyone working with security, must report to mean the former NSM boss, describing Norway as a country where it is relatively easy to get information from internal processes.
– Norway is not exactly leading within computer security. We are perhaps one of the weakest links, he said.
Larsen believes Norway is interesting for espionage partly because of oil resources, technology, global commitment and NATO membership.
He was a member of the Vulnerability Committee as former Prime Minister Kåre Willoch led. The Committee concluded that Norway needs a separate security department, which never came to be.
A key source within the security industry agrees with Larsen.
