Last year Samsung came with its first compact camera with Android menus, the Samsung Galaxy Camera.

Today they take this kind of hybrid products even a step further, launching a version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a decent compact camera with 10x optical zoom – or a compact camera with built-in cell phone, if you will.

Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom looks like a Galaxy S4 front, but since this will be a full compact the optics are more important than in a normal cell phone, the Galaxy S4 zoom much thicker than the regular S4-one. S4 Zoom is 1.54 inches thick and weighs 208 grams.

Not as powerful as S4

Although the phone – or the camera if you like – bearing the name Galaxy S4, it is not as powerful as an S4. The processor is a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the phone comes with 1.5 GB of main memory and 8 GB of storage (5 GB available). There is support for memory cards up to 64 GB.

The screen is 4.3 inches high, compared to 5 inches on the regular S4 model. Resolution is 540X 960 pixels and the screen is a Super AMOLED.

16 megapixel camera with optical zoom

For those who buy a product like this will probably be the camera section at least as interesting as the phone part.

resolution of the image sensor is 16 megapixels, and as mentioned it tigangers optical zoom. This is a zoom equivalent to what you find in ordinary compact cameras, the lens in front of the camera will be shorter or longer as you zoom. There are also optical image stabilization.

lens has f / 3 as the largest aperture and aperture f / 6,3 when zooming in max.

Samsung writes in a press release that they have introduced a new feature called Zoom ring for quick and easy access to the main functions. For example you can take a photo while you talk on the phone, and immediately afterwards share photo with your friend. The photo features Smart Mode and Smart Mode Suggest you get help to adjust settings based on ambient light, and the Samsung Link feature lets you push of a button to transfer images to other Samsung devices wirelessly.

Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and launched both 3G and 4G version. The price will be around 4500 dollars.
