The company has since launched a smaller phone with the same name but with different feed; S4 Galaxy Mini. Get the most exciting is probably still the waterproof variety, which is just as nonsense type as its namesake.
We got a peek at the phone on Samsung’s offices in Oslo. The new phone does a particularly good first impression.

Rugged phones are becoming better
Phones that can withstand the Norwegian climate has traditionally been built like tanks, and been crappy to use – at least compared to the real top models. The trend started slowly turning as Sony and Motorola began releasing top models that tolerate water. It would be to look at the Sony Xperia V and Xperia Z that the fine can withstand a bathroom. That many of Motorola’s hottest mobiles can withstand water, even if they are not tight, nor is it possible to see.
The two Galaxy Xcover models have so far been alone among Samsung’s smartphones to endure much. Galaxy S4 Active is the first waterproof smartphone Samsung Launches running away from Rambo-style that was common before.
Still slightly different design
Now, not Samsung removed all signs of the Galaxy S4 Active withstand more than the regular model. The clearest signs that S4 Active is different, however, seems to be more cosmetic, such as the four screws around the battery cover, which apparently has no function.
This phone is slightly larger than the original, but it’s not talking about a lot. It is also worth mentioning that the back of the phone is rough. The original Galaxy S4 model is completely smooth on the backside. We seem Active edition is even better in your hand. Probably the coating applied to the back to be crucial for how good it is to use when it gets wet.
Bright IPS display
Another change from the model that was launched in March, is that the Galaxy S4 Active not have AMOLED display. There is an LCD IPS variant used. The solution is still the same.
Some might also point out that the LCD screen has a few more pixels than the AMOLED screen in the usual Galaxy S4 model, because of the PenTile Matrix technology used in many of Samsung’s AMOLED screens. We can not possibly imagine that this is something someone would notice in practice, so that high pixel density matter has become.
As we suspected, the LCD screen on the Galaxy S4 Active very bright. Just how much difference it will make in practice we do not know until we have tested it properly. How effective extra light and depends, for example, of how reflective glass that covers the screen is.

Samsung has not said anything about how much physical bank phone to endure. We note, however, that it seems a few notches more solid than the usual S4 model on all sides. Besides extending the frame around the screen up slightly from the screen.
It may mean extra protection against broken screen if the phone would land on a flat floor. The edge is not large, so it is unlikely to protect against rocks or uneven ground.

The inside of the phone is the powerful blow. Below the screen are in fact quite similar to those specifications we know from the regular Galaxy S4 model.
means Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, with four powerful cores and 1.9 GHz clock speed. 2 gigabytes of working memory is also here.
Another benefit Galaxy S4 Active take away from the regular edition, super-sensitive screen. So this is the first phone that is both waterproof and has a screen that you can use with gloves.
This is one of the first waterproof top models that do not have a hatch over the headphone jack. So you can use both headphones and mobile phone outside in the downpour, without being afraid of the phone to stop working.
One of the main drawbacks of Galaxy S4 also included. The phone has only 16 GB of storage, and much of the space is eaten up even before you start adding apps. It is compensated by allowing you to insert a memory card of up to 64GB.
No major changes in menus
time we used the phone was extremely fast and agile in the menus, just as we expect. The menus are as good as sticky as those found in the Galaxy S4. They are more colorful than the basic Android as Google designs it. In addition, it comes with a whole bunch of extra features. Some of the features are very useful, while others appear more like gimmicks.
phone we got paw on running early software. This means that even if it has more than enough performance to drive menus and individual functions well, it is not finished optimized and there are still little things that do not work around.
We were still allowed to run a performance test on the phone. 17,400 points in AnTuTu is a relatively good result, but it is significantly weaker than the regular Galaxy S4 model scores. Since both phones have the same hardware, we expect the performance tests will be significantly better as fast as we can try a Galaxy S4 Active with the finished software.

Samsung kameraapp is among the bes t equipped in the market. Camera with underwater function
associated with a certain voltage to the camera in Galaxy S4 Active. Camera chip is in fact not shared between the two Galaxy S4 models. The waterproof version snapping pictures with lower resolution but has to return a special underwater mode.
Once you activate underwater mode, you can use one of the physical buttons on the phone to snap photos. The software is also optimized to provide better underwater pictures.
We were unfortunately not tested underwater part of the camera, but we got some photos that we have added to the case bottom. We experienced a bit iffy quality, but it is worth taking into account that the software is not finished and that the pictures were taken indoors and through windows.
Galaxy S4 Active is on sale as early as July.
